Hair M was founded by Celeste Trapp in 2003 in Portland, Oregon. New to the hair industry, Celeste identified a niche in offering a sophisticated salon for men that appealed to them aesthetically, while showing them how incredible pampering services like scalp massages, hot towel shaves and full body massages could be. With Celeste's marketing background Hair M was quick to be noticed and the buzz began. Men began to realize that they had been short serviced all the years prior and appreciated their Hair M experience.

In 2005 Hair M opened in Beaverton, Oregon. In 2009 Y-Chrome joined the family, a modern barbershop in downtown Portland. Trapp wanted to capture the clients who were not able to visit Hair M for every hair service due to price or convenience. Y-Chrome provided these clients a scaled-down experience, but with the same great service. Y-Chrome recently rebranded as Chrome, offering a more inclusive service for all, offering haircuts, shaves and color services. In 2021 a second Chrome location opened at the corner of E. Burnside and MLK.

In 2014 M|W opened its' doors in the Pearl District offering a luxury, pampering experience for men and women for hair, skin and body treatments. Unfortunately this location closed in October 2021.

In 2021 Medspa treatments were added to the menu to provide both men and women a convenient and comfortable setting for anti-aging and body enhancing treatments. Currently these services are offered at our Beaverton location only.

In 2018 Hair M opened in Lake Oswego at Kruse Village.
